News24 is looking for a digitally savvy production journalist to join their production desk team in Cape Town. Closing date for applications is the 16th of May 2025.
Skills & Competencies:
- Excellent writing, rewriting and sub-editing skills.
- Has an excellent eye for visuals.
- Knowledge of photo editing, basic graphics would be advantageous.
- A good understanding of local and international news, and a passion for breaking news, with an ability to identify content that resonates with local audiences.
- Versatile, flexible and adaptable to change.
- Perform under pressure, with short turn-around times.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Knowledge of a CMS.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Produce online-ready content with the appropriate collateral to enrich copy.
- Copy-tasting relevant local and international content.
- Edit content to ensure it’s in line with the style of the publication.
- Help with the moderation of comments.
- Ability to quickly compile breaking news and/or aggregations where needed.
- Manage the flow of content from various sections and sites to the main News24 site when the site editor is unavailable.
- Run live blogs.
- Send out newsletters where required.
- Willingness to work irregular hours – and independently – over weekends and public holidays.
Minimum Requirements:
- A relevant tertiary qualification.
- At least 3-5 years of experience in the journalism industry.
- Experience in online environment.
- Proven experience as a reporter, sub-editor or content producer/production journalist.
