The Joe Gqabi District Municipality is a Category 4 Municipality, with its seat in Barkly East and covers the area of Walter Sisulu (Burgersdorp, Steynsburg and Venterstad, Maletswai and James Calata), Senqu (Lady Grey, Sterkspruit, Barkly East, Rhodes and Rossouw) and Elundini (Ugie, Nqanqarhu, Tlokoeng and the rural part of Tsolo and Qumbu).
Applications from suitably qualified and experienced applicants are hereby invited for the following Extended Public Works (EPWP) positions which exist within the towns of Maletswai, Burgersdorp, Sterkspruit, Tlokoeng and Nqanqarhu. Please note that applicants must reside within the towns where the job opportunities are advertised.
POST DESIGNATION: SKILLED PLUMBERS

MONTHLY STIPEND: R10 830 per month. (all-inclusive amount)
Minimum Requirements:
- Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent qualification
- Trade Test Certificate in Plumbing (Red Seal)
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in plumbing maintenance, water reticulation, and infrastructure repairs
- Knowledge of municipal water and sanitation systems
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Willingness to work in different locations across the district
- Physical fitness and ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- A valid driver’s License (minimum code EB) is essential
Key Responsibilities:
- Installation, maintenance, and repair of water and sanitation infrastructure
- Conducting plumbing inspections and ensuring compliance with standards
- Identifying and repairing water leaks and burst pipes
- Ensuring quality workmanship and adherence to municipal regulations
POST DESIGNATION: SEMI-SKILLED METER INSTALLERS

MONTHLY STIPEND: R6498 per month. (all-inclusive amount)
Minimum Requirements:
- Grade 10 or equivalent qualification
- Experience in water meter installation and maintenance (minimum 1 year preferred)
- Knowledge of water supply systems and basic plumbing principles
- Ability to work with tools and perform manual labour
- Willingness to work in different locations across the district
- Physical fitness and ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
Key Responsibilities:
- Installation and replacement of water meters
- Assisting in leak detection and reporting faulty meters
- Ensuring proper meter connections and adherence to installation guidelines
- Working with plumbers and municipal teams to improve water services
General Requirements for Both Positions:
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Willingness to work extended hours when required
- Ability to work under pressure
- Commitment to delivering quality municipal services
