Subtrop Lindsey Milne Bursaries

The Subtrop Lindsey Milne Bursary provides financial assistance to students pursuing studies within South Africa’s subtropical fruit industry. Funding is aimed at students in BSc Agriculture who major in Horticultural Science (and related fields) or Agricultural Economics. Awards are granted for one academic year at a time, renewable based on satisfactory academic performance, with value determined by student need and reviewed annually.

Coverage & Selection

  • Bursary value based on need (reviewed annually).
  • Selection by a Subtrop-appointed panel; successful candidates sign a contractual agreement.
  • Notifications by 31 December 2025 (no feedback by then = unsuccessful).

Obligations

  • Where possible, seminars/projects must focus on subtropical crops (avocado, mango, litchi).
  • Work-back: after graduation, recipients work for SA Subtropical Growers’ Association (Subtrop) for a period equal to the years funded (if a suitable position is available; if not, no obligation, Subtrop assists with placement among member associations).
